Tips for Using Twitter in Your Business Marketing

By now just about everyone in the world has at least heard of the social media site, Twitter, and most people have an account. It is one of the most popular websites on the internet right now and one of the top used sites of all time. Millions upon millions of people use Twitter every day, and the number of users continues to rise by the minute. So, as a business owner, you need to use the popularity of Twitter to your advantage when marketing your business.

However, it can be a complete waste of time if you aren’t careful. So, here are a few tips and tricks you need to know in order to effectively use Twitter as a business resource…

1) Completely Fill Out Your Profile

You want to be sure to give as much information about you and your business as you possibly can on your Twitter profile. This is the easiest way to show people who you are and what your business is about. If nothing else, you definitely want to be sure to put a link to your website in your profile.

If you have a blog it’s probably best to link to it rather than a static home page. That is simply because a lot more people are likely to follow a blog than a regular site because they know it will be updated more often.

2) Build As Many Targeted Followers As You Can

Get as many people as you can following you by including your Twitter ID on all of your business cards, advertising, websites, emails, social media profiles, and so on. Also, follow other people who are interested in your niche. You can find people who are interested in your niche by going to https://twitter.com/search and searching for keywords related to your business. When you follow someone they will usually follow you back. Just follow a handful of people everyday and it won’t be long until you have a nice sized targeted following.

3) Personalize Your Profile Page

Upload a unique background to your Twitter page and a picture of you or your business logo, and some information about your company. Make it look nice and reflect your brand as much as you can. Anything catchy and memorable is always good. This will help set you apart from all the other people that your followers will see every day.

4) Give Value in Your Tweets

Most of your tweets should be either interesting, educational, entertaining, useful, or all of the above. And don’t be all business all the time. If you simply write a bunch of boring tweets or only send out links to your blog posts, you won’t get far with your efforts. It’s also very important to not ever try to directly sell to people on Twitter. Doing so will likely have a negative effect on your business rather than do anything positive.

That’s not to say you can’t have fun with your tweets at times or post about totally random stuff, or general updates about your day. But more often than not you need to give value and make them targeted to your followers.

5) Be Consistent

This is probably the hardest tip of all to actually do. You want to be fairly consistent with your Twitter efforts. It’s easy at first to tweet a lot but it’s also very easy to forget about it for days, weeks, or even months at a time. You don’t need to stick to a strict schedule of X amount of tweets per day at the exact same times or anything like that, but you should at least write something every day. It only takes a minute so don’t put it off.

Now you have some great tips for using Twitter in your business marketing efforts. The only thing left to do now is go implement them immediately!
